Some of the best ways to prevent spreading illness are the most simple. We all want to stay healthy, but some of the information about spreading illness is either completely false or just not realistic for people to do. However, there are plenty of ways that really are effective at preventing the spread of diseases like COVID-19.
Washing your hands is one of the best things you can do to keep yourself and those around you healthy, but do you know how to wash your hands? Of course, we know the basics, but it is recommended that we wash with warm to hot water and soap, for at least 20 seconds (or, the amount of time it takes to sing “Happy Birthday”).
Another good idea is to stop shaking hands and kissing people. If you’re trying to greet someone, opt for an elbow bump instead. If you shake hands or kiss, you’re only making it easier for germs to travel to your eyes, nose, and mouth.
Of course, one of the most obvious things you can do to prevent the spread of disease is to stay home if you’re sick and only go out when absolutely necessary, even if you’re healthy. It can be boring and if you don’t get paid time off work it can be especially difficult, but it is the most important thing we can do to stop COVID-19 from spreading around our communities and harming our loved ones.
