Why Dog Bites Are More Serious Than You’d Think

It is believed that dogs were the first animal species the first humans managed to domesticate over 14,000 years ago. Nowadays humans commonly share most of their spaces and activities with dogs everywhere, and for most of us it’s undeniable that dogs typically become valuable family members.

On the other hand, as much as dogs have conditioned themselves to live along with humans, we still need to keep in mind that dogs are animals. They don’t know how many things in our civilization works, and when they feel confused, threatened, or scared…that can lead to a bite—in worst cases, an attack.

This infographic briefly states some of the facts that we have to keep in mind in regards to dog bites. It is estimated that 4.5 million people get bitten by a dog every year, and about 885,000 of those seek medical attention. It is important for you to know what to do in such cases, as well as keep an eye out for signs that could cause a dog to become hostile to humans: carelessness, abuse, or neglect by their owners. Avoiding unknown dogs and following these good practices with your own dog are good ways to keep your family and people within your neighborhood safe from tragic events.
