Every state has unique DUI laws, which are created to keep people from “driving under the influence” of alcohol or drugs and endangering innocent bystanders, but you will not believe the strange ways people break these laws.
The types of vehicles these tipsy travelers used was the first sign something was wrong. A skateboard, lawnmower, and an adult tricycle were just some of the bizarre modes of travel for bashed drivers who were taking the slow way home.
One 40-year-old man was rolling through town in his Barbie toy car without a license before the disheveled driver was nabbed by police, and another muddled motorist was rocking a souped-up beer cooler when he was busted, which is a less-than-inconspicuous way to drive drunk.
An Amish fellow had a carriage powered by horses and a belly full of beer, and a fireman took the company vehicle for a spin.
In another bizarre turn, a Christmas parade was disrupted when a crocked float driver sped off with riders on the back for three miles before scuffling with officers and being tossed in the slammer.
While these bizarre incidents offer laughs, there is nothing funny about driving drunk. According to MADD statistics, inebriated drivers are responsible for 800 injuries each day because of vehicle accidents. In addition, two out of every three people will be involved in a drunk driving crash in their lifetime, and these crashes are responsible for one death every 50 minutes in the United States.
