When I got a smartphone back in 2011, my productivity immediately went downhill. Thanks to mobile apps like Angry Birds, YouTube and Snapchat, it’s virtually impossible to not have my phone near me.
Today’s infographic explores the apps that make our smartphones so addictive. For games, you have your classics in Temple Run and Angry Birds, which dominated in 2012 and 2013 and faded out as the gaming scene switched to online base-building games like Clash Of Clans. Finally, we had the global phenomenon that was Pokémon Go in 2017, which had hordes of people roaming parks to level up.
As for social media apps, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat have all been popular, and we don’t see those going anywhere. Surprisingly, this infographic doesn’t mention Twitter, even though it’s wildly popular and has nearly one billion accounts.
What will the next five years of apps look like? What will be the next big social media app? Will my phone addiction and attention span get even worse as more apps come out? In all seriousness, my attachment to my phone has made me wonder if I suffer from cellphone addiction. If you feel the same way, check out our infographic here about cellphone addiction.
