Every February, the United States is thrown into a frenzy as the game known as the Super Bowl rolls around, and this year was no different. This was the championship game for the National Football League (NFL), and it’s changed just a bit since the first Super Bowl was played on January 15th, 1967.
In the fifty-three years since that fateful winter day, the Super Bowl has become a cultural phenomenon, drawing millions upon millions of viewers every year. Many of these viewers go all out for The Big Game, and use the Super Bowl as an opportunity to indulge in an absurd amount of delicious food…including chicken wings.
As with every year, Americans are projected to have eaten a ridiculous amount of chicken wings during the Super Bowl; 1.4 billion of them, to be exact. This is 27 million (2%) more than last year!
Today’s infographic highlights this absolutely absurd amount of wings and truly puts it into perspective. For instance, did you know that 1.4 billion wings could circle the earth three times?
Regardless of your opinion on the Super Bowl and the glamour surrounding it, you must admit, these are some impressive numbers. I can assure you that I did my part by eating plenty of wings during this year’s game between the 49ers and Chiefs!
