Pulp Fiction As You’ve Never Seen It

To say that Pulp Fiction is a classic film is an understatement. It’s one that you can find hanging out on almost any Top 50 Best Films list, one that showcases Quentin Tarantino at his most brash and freewheeling (and before he began devoting quite so many frames to filming feet.) Here’s a look at the film in a format you’ve probably never seen it.

Movies are, naturally, a visual medium. That accounts for much of their expense, from hiring actors to building costly props to shooting on location. Naturally, films also have their own timeline and internal chronology; characters have backstories and keep secrets from each other and the viewer.

This artful infographic flattens Pulp Fiction, the 1994 classic, into a streamline, chronological timeline, complete with beautiful little drawings to bring to mind iconic costumes or sets, and a key that sets out which characters are moving, not moving, or dead. (There’s more than a few ‘dead’ lines demarcated, the film being pretty violent.) The clever text shows which moments are a flashback (such as the very start), and speech bubbles spotlight favorite quotes like “This was divine intervention.” It’s a new and creative way to approach a film that you might have seen a million times.
