No one can deny the influence Star Wars has had on film and TV across the world. However, the intergalactic series can sometimes be harder to apply to everyday life–until you take a closer look at the wisdom that some Star Wars characters have shared within the films.
There’s wisdom to be found wherever you look, and the Star Wars films are no exception. Though the fantastical content of the movies may seemingly not apply to your everyday life (although, who knows, maybe light-sabers and spaceships are de rigueur), the core messages are often universal.
For example, in A New Hope, Obi-Wan Kenobi says, “Strike me down, and I will become more powerful than you could possibly imagine.” More than just bravado, this quote carries a powerful message for anyone who’s ever had to overcome adversity. Similarly, Qui-Gon Jinn says “Your focus determines your reality” in A Phantom Menace. Better than the tired “mind over matter” version, this quote suggests that you have more control over your life and the world around you than you may think.
Some quotes are prescient to the world at large: Senator Padme Amidala says that liberty dies “with thunderous applause”, which is a truth that despotic regimes have proven the world over. Whether they contain global truths or helpful advice for your personal life, the Star Wars films can be surprisingly wise.
