Chart Showing How Many FIFA World Cups Each Country Has Won

By | source:Here Nov 16th, 2022

FIFA World Cup is the most popular sport event in the world. It’s held every four years, and it attracts billions of viewers. Many countries have participated in this event since its inception in 1930. Each country has won at least one FIFA World Cup medal, with Brazil leading with five wins and Italy second with four wins.

Brazil

Brazil has the most football and soccer world cups of any country, with five. The five World Cup wins are a record that will likely never be broken. Brazil won the first two editions of the tournament, in 1930 and 1938, then again in 1950. If you count these three as “football” wins (and not soccer), then Brazil’s total jumps to seven: they also won two under these names. In 1958 they won their fourth “football” title—which was held at home—and then again in 1962 and 1970 as FIFA became more internationalized with teams from Asia joining the mix. In addition to their record-setting number of championships (eight if you count both types), Brazil also holds several other records for World Cups: most goals scored by one country (133), most consecutive games without being eliminated by another country (29) and longest unbeaten streak at 36 matches between 1945-1949.[2]

Germany

Germany has won 4 world cups, the latest being in 2014. Their first win was in 1954, when they defeated Hungary 3-2 in the final. Germany’s most recent win was against Argentina 1-0 in extra time at Rio de Janeiro’s Maracanã Stadium. Both goals were scored by Mario Götze, who became the youngest player ever to score two goals in a World Cup Final (only 5’8″). At the time of writing this article, Germany has won more World Cups than any other European country; however, Brazil still holds the record for most titles overall with 5 victories: 1958 – 1962 and 1970 – 1994.

Italy

Italy has won 4 FIFA World Cups, more than any other country in the world. They are also the only team to win three consecutive FIFA World Cups, doing so in 1934, 1938 and 1982. Italy has been runner up twice as well – in 1970 and 2006.

Uruguay

Uruguay are the only nation to have won the FIFA World Cup twice, first in 1930 and then again in 1950. Their first triumph came after a dramatic 4–2 win over Argentina in Montevideo, with Alcides Ghiggia scoring both goals for Uruguay. The second was just as dramatic, with an injury-time winner from captain Obdulio Varela handing them victory against hosts Brazil at Rio’s Maracanã Stadium.

Argentina

You may be surprised to see the number 2 in the chart for Argentina. After all, Argentina has won more world cups than any other country in South America! That’s right—Argentina has won two world cups: 1978 and 1986.

If you aren’t familiar with either of these victories, here’s a quick recap: The 1978 World Cup was hosted by Argentina and held at Estadio Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti in Buenos Aires. At this time, it was known as Estadio Ciudad de La Plata (City of La Plata Stadium).

The 1986 World Cup was also hosted by Argentina and held at Estadio José Amalfitani in Buenos Aires. It was renamed Estadio Juan Domingo Perón after former Argentine president Juan Domingo Perón died on June 27th 1973 before he could attend any matches there; however his widow Isabelita did attend some games while they were still playing there under its old name back when she was alive too so maybe it wasn’t such a bad choice after all?

England

England has won the world cup once and been runners up twice. England’s first win was in 1966, when they beat West Germany 4-2 in an exciting match at Wembley Stadium. Their second win came in 1990, which is a bit of a sore spot for all English fans because it came against Germany again—this time by penalties. As you can see from the chart, England has only won one title out of 22 attempts at winning the tournament (and two out of 19 tries if you count runners up as well).

France

You may know that France won the World Cup in 1998, but do you know that they also won it in 2018? France is the only team from Europe to win two World Cups, which makes them a force to be reckoned with. In fact, they have more than any other country from Europe! Spain

You may be surprised to learn that Spain has won the FIFA World Cup once. They won it in 2010, when they beat host nation South Africa by a score of 1-0. In fact, they scored first and went on to win 4-0 in penalty kicks—a game where each team puts 11 players on a field and tries to kick an oversized ball into their opponent’s net while simultaneously avoiding getting kicked out of bounds by their opponents.

The country’s soccer team consists of just 23 people who play together as a single unit called “La Furia Roja (The Red Fury).” They are led by Iker Casillas, who is widely considered one of the greatest goalkeepers ever to have played professional soccer; he has earned over 310 caps for Spain and helped lead his country through three separate World Cups (1998, 2006 and 2010).

All in all, it’s safe to say that Brazil is the most successful country in FIFA World Cup history. They have won the tournament five times and were runners up twice. Germany comes a close second with four titles, while Italy has also won four times but only managed third place once. This is followed by Argentina who won two championships before losing out on their third attempt at glory against France in 2018! England had one victory under its belt before losing out on another chance this year when it lost 2-1 against Croatia in penalties after being beaten 4-2 over 120 minutes (with extra time).
