In any professional sports league, a rookie always looks to make a smashing first impression, and rookies in the NBA are no different.
Typically, a great NBA debut means a lot of things. A solid debut gives a glimpse into the bright futures of budding young stars. While there are exceptions to this (with one in today’s infographic!), for the most part, this is usually the case. A solid debut will also provide a great headline for sports pundits as a rookie makes their mark on their respective sport.
Today’s infographic gives a breakdown of five of the best NBA debuts since 2000, displaying points, rebounds, assists, field goal percentage, and minutes for each debut game. Each of the players that make an appearance in today’s infographic made a stunning initial impact, with three of the five players eventually becoming multiple time all-stars, and one of the five players being a surefire future all-star.
A great debut game does not always lead to career success though. Take it from Michael Carter-Williams, whose career fizzled out after putting up a near quadruple-double in his debut game. It’s unfortunate that his career never panned out, but the silver lining in this is that his debut game will forever be immortalized as one of the most impressive.
