I usually stick to an iced coffee if I need some caffeine. If I need something creamier, I’ll go for a café au lait (coffee with milk). Thanks to this infographic, I now realize I’ve been pronouncing the drink wrong. Whoops.
It can seriously get overwhelming when every drink on a coffeeshop’s menu seems similar. This handy chart will come in handy the next time you want to impress your barista.
My coffee-loving friends insist they hate it when people say “espresso” with an x sound. Make sure you avoid that faux pas and order an “ess-press-oh” instead.
Let’s look at the differences between three very similar sounding drinks. A caffé latte is espresso with steamed milk and milk foam. A caffé breve has espresso with steamed half-and-half and milk foam. If you’re feeling a bit indulgent, opt for a caffé mocha, which has espresso, chocolate syrup, steamed milk and whipped cream.
Hopefully this inspires you to go to your local coffee shop and order like a pro. Before you go, check out a chart very similar to this one that explores even more coffee drinks.
