I can barely manage to budget my weekly expenses–I can’t even wrap my head around the concept of budgeting for an entire nation!
The U.S. is the third most populous country in the world, and it takes literally trillions of dollars to provide the basic resources for those millions of individuals. While it might seem like things such as our public schools and roads simply exist, in reality, it takes meticulous financial planning to decide where our taxpayer money goes, and how it will function. It’s a very difficult process to make those decisions because they dictate how every governmental section of society will run.
The president and their team has a fixed amount of resources to distribute however they see fit. This means that when one sector receives more money, all others must receive somewhat less funding. So, when a new piece gets added to the economic puzzle, the money that the new area receives has to be taken from elsewhere.
Everyone has different priorities based on their personal experiences, and thus different visions of how the budgetary pie should be divided up. Someone with school-aged children probably places a lot more importance on school funding than someone who isn’t a parent. It’s the president and their team’s responsibility to divide resources equitably, to ensure that the diverse members of our nations are all being provided for.
