As a nation that’s ever changing, it’s sometimes easy to overlook some of the changes that happen within our nation year to year and even week to week. We grow larger in population every year, and with that growth in quantity comes growth in our national population’s diversity as well. Even things like which names are more popular and what forms of media we enjoy the most change more regularly than most of us probably think to realize.
Today’s infographic gives us a large-scale comparison of modern life in America vs. what was the norm 100 years ago in 1913. For instance, we seem to spend a good deal more of our time and money on entertainment now vs. then. Even with inflation taken into account, the most popular movie 100 years ago (“Traffic in Soles”) only brought in $9.4 million at the box office while in 2013 the most popular movie is “Iron Man 3” and it’s already made $340 million in the relatively short amount of time it’s been out. America also had a somewhat lower unemployment rate 100 years ago but the average life expectancy was also almost 36 years lower than it is today.
