What You Didn’t Know about the H-1B Visa Program

By | May 22nd, 2016

Sweeping generalizations common in US political rhetoric tend to paint all immigrants with the same brush, and not in a flattering color.

I encourage you to be very skeptical of all generalizations of large numbers of people and take every opportunity to debunk them.

There are some immigrants who come to the US on visas given to them specifically because they are highly skilled in areas where the workforce needs more workers. The tech industry and engineering are two examples of this. Engineering degrees are much rarer among US graduates than Chinese graduates, but there is not less demand in the US than in China for engineers.

No matter, though, because all these foreigners are taking our jobs away, right? Well, no. Not at all. Immigrants make up about 13% of the US population, but they create about 30% of new businesses. That’s a lot of immigrant-created jobs going to US citizens.

Whether you’re in the US on an H-1B visa, were born here, raised here, or whatever, you need to do a good job in the interview if you want to get a good job. We’ve got an infographic to guide you around common interview pitfalls and make sure you’re at your best.
