I will be honest. I spend a lot of time on social media, but how much time do you actually spend on these apps? We all use these apps differently and it depends on who you are and what you like to do. Now let’s take a look at the top social media apps that people spend the most time on in 2023.

TikTok

TikTok is a Chinese-American, short-video application that was launched in September 2016. It is a video sharing platform that allows users to create 15-second videos. The app is owned by ByteDance and has been downloaded more than 500 million times worldwide. TikTok’s popularity soared as people shared their favorite songs using the app’s music search feature which allows users to find their favorite songs from the top charting artists on YouTube or SoundCloud. Users can also create lip sync videos using popular tunes from artists such as Drake or Childish Gambino by adding lyrics into the video clips they have recorded themselves with their phone camera; this makes it easy for everyone to become professional singers overnight!

YouTube

YouTube is a video-sharing website headquartered in San Bruno, California. It was founded by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim in February 2005. The company was purchased by Google in November 2006 for US$1.65 billion; Google retained its stake until 2014 before reorganizing Google as Alphabet Inc., which now includes YouTube among its subsidiaries. YouTube allows users to upload, view and share videos with others for free. The service was initially created by three former PayPal employees: Hurley (a co-founder of PayPal), Chen (also a co-founder), Karim who had worked at Apple Inc.. According to “The New York Times”, “the idea for YouTube came from two separate sources: one which Hurley saw on vacation in Costa Rica; the other being an idea developed by Chen and Karim after they had been working together on another project”.

Facebook

With over 2 billion users, Facebook is the most popular social media app by far. It allows users to create a personal profile, add other users as friends and exchange messages. The service also includes the ability to share photos and videos, as well as events that you’re attending or planning on going to with your friends. Facebook owns WhatsApp (1 billion daily active users) and Instagram (1 billion daily active users).

WhatsApp

WhatsApp is a mobile messaging app. It is a cross-platform mobile messaging app available for iOS, Android, Windows Phone, BlackBerry and Nokia Asha. WhatsApp Messenger is a free instant messaging app for smartphones that allows you to exchange messages without having to pay for SMS charges when using data connection or Wi-Fi (WhatsApp calls).

Instagram

It’s no surprise that Instagram is a top social media app. The service lets users share photos and videos with their followers, who can leave comments and like the content. The app was launched in October 2010 as an iOS app, then expanded to Android devices in April 2012. It was created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, who sold it to Facebook for US$1 billion in April 2012; since then, Instagram has grown rapidly–today there are 1 billion monthly active users (MAUs).

As you can see, we spend the most time on these social media apps. The data shows that in 2023 we will continue to use these apps and they will remain popular with users.
