By | source:Here Dec 16th, 2021

Restaurant delivery has become a booming industry in recent years. The covid-19 pandemic has greatly accelerated the adoption of food delivery apps. What are the top restaurant delivery software companies today?

The food delivery industry is dominated by a few major players. Uber Eats, Grubhub and DoorDash make up 99% of the restaurant delivery app market share in the United States. After the big three food delivery companies, Postmates and Seamless are also notable competitors but their combined market share is only a fraction of the top three.

Uber Eats

Uber Eats is the most popular food delivery service in the world with over 66 million users. In 2020 it generated $4.8 billion in sales, an increase of over 150% from the previous year. Uber Eats is definitely the biggest global player on this list, with operations in 45 countries and 6000 cities across the globe.

Grubhub

Grubhub has been around for a while now, going public all the way back in 2013. It has been losing market share lately to Uber Eats and DoorDash. Grubhub operates in 4,000 cities which has nearly doubled since 2018.

DoorDash

DoorDash just recently became a public company and currently operates ion 4,000 cities in the United States. Unlike Uber Eats it is not a global brand yet and is instead focusing exclusively on the American market.

In 2020 it was the fastest growing food delivery service by increasing revenue by 241% from $850 million to almost $3 billion.

The smaller players, Postmates and Seamless have been acquired by the larger companies trying to quickly scale their operations. Postmates was acquired by Uber Eats in 2020 for $2.65 billion and Seamless was acquired by Grubhub in 2013. Grubhub operates a portfolio of smaller food delivery apps while using its flagship brand as it’s primary national product.

It will be interesting to see how the battle over food delivery in the United States shapes up over the next few years. Stay up to date on the latest news at gourmetmarketing.net.
