As our country continues to grow both in terms of people and overall knowledge, it is important to keep track of where the population is increasing/decreasing.
In today’s infographic, TitleMax takes a look at the last ten years of census data to reveal which cities are on the rise and which cities are dying in the United States. For a comprehensive picture of the overall situation, the study takes into account both total population change and percentage of population change from 2010 to 2019.
The study reveals that, in terms of total population growth, Phoenix, Arizona is the top dog. From 2010 to 2019, the city’s population increased by 231,954 people. Other cities in the top ten include Los Angeles, New York, and Seattle. If we were to look at the fastest growth by the percentage of the population, we would see that the city of Herriman, Utah would take the crown, as their population increased by 128.01% from 2010 to 2019.
On the opposite side of the spectrum, we see that Detroit, Michigan is the fastest shrinking city in the United States in terms of population. From 2010 to 2019, the city lost 41,100 residents. Other cities that are showing major signs of shrinkage include Baltimore, Maryland and Cleveland, Ohio. The fastest shrinking city by the percentage of the population would be Charleston, West Virginia with a percentage change of -9.24%.
