Back in my day there were only 150 Pokémon, not 493. I would trade cards on the playground like a used car salesman. Then Pokémon cards were banned when moms would complain that their kids would come home crying because they lost their holographic Charazard. Hey, it was their fault to think the Mexican bootleg of Clefairy was legit.
I’ve spoken here before about the worst parts of Pokémon Red and Blue. I tried playing Blue again a few months ago and got lost about half way. I really don’t remember having that much trouble with the game in 5th grade. Soon Pokémon Black version and White version are coming to a store near you. I have a feeling it is going to be a bit similar to all the other colors of the rainbow they’ve already made.
What I don’t understand is why the Pokémon franchise isn’t capitalizing on all of us young adults who have an amazingly fond memory of this game. It has been one of the biggest cultural impacts on our generation, yet they keep aiming Pokémon games at children.
Make an Xbox thriller, Pokémon Blood Red, where Ash is in his twenties and he has to go save his girl Misty from the Saffron City Mafia. His bike would be a chopper, his sidekick would be the badass Gyarados, Brock wouldn’t exist and Ash would have a handy Glock 9 if Team Rocket ever came around. Boom. Right there is the next hit game. Halo, you better watch your back. [Via]
