A morning commute in a populous city can either be a complete cakewalk or an incredibly tedious task. Today we will be taking a look at the extremes of both sides.
The Teletrac Navman Commute Index ranks the top 50 most populous cities in the US using seven key factors. By applying a ranking score to each of the seven key factors and compiling these scores into a cumulative score, the Index was able to rank each of the cities by the average commute. The higher the cumulative score, the worse the commute for any given city.
Knowing how good/bad a commute in a given city is essential, as stressful commutes can lead to dangerous or poor driving habits and behaviors. With that being said, I’m sure you’d like to hear the results of this study.
The five worst commuter cities in America are Washington D.C., Baltimore, Los Angeles, Boston, and San Francisco. On the opposite side of the spectrum are the best commuter cities in America, which are Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, Raleigh-Durham, Virginia Beach, and Buffalo. It appears that the worse commuter cities seem to be in overall larger and more densely packed states, while this is not the case for the best commuter cities.
