Caddyshack, Stripes, Groundhog Day, and the Life Aquatic what do they all have in common? Besides being funny, some might even say iconic movies, they all star former Saturday Night Live cast member Bill Murray. A man who I learned from Reddit does not have an agent but rather a phone number you can call and leave a message pitching your movie.
I have always been a fan of Bill Murray’s work, but after doing some research for today’s post I am an even bigger fan of the man himself. Not only has he starred in big movies alongside Chevy Chase and Dan Akroyd but he also seems to love his fans. Not too long ago I read a story about a fan asking Mr. Murray for an autograph but because he considers autographs to be too impersonal he instead filmed a slow motion walk with the fan and his filmaker friends. You can see it here.
Other interesting stories I read included Bill Murray bar tending here in Austin during SXSW in 2010 and him randomly popping in on people singing karaoke, sitting down and joining them. For SXSW he stepped behind the bar of Shangri-La and no matter what anybody ordered just poured them an overflowing shot of tequila. According to the internet these are not isolated incidents. Apparently Bill just shows up in random places hangs out with his fans, participates in whatever they are doing, and bids farewell with a “no one will ever believe you.” If you don’t believe me Google it or check out this site.
