It’s no secret that the United States loves beer, but did you know we’re not even in the top 10? That’s right—we’re about to get schooled by some other countries when it comes to our favorite beverage. But don’t worry: those countries are all good friends with us and still love us (even though they can drink more beer than us). Let’s take a look at some of the most beer-loving countries on Earth!
China
China is the world’s largest beer market and has been for some time. It’s also the country with the most beer drinkers, with 830 million people enjoying their suds in 2015. China’s beer consumption has increased by 4.5% in the past year and has been steadily rising since 1991 when it overtook Germany as the biggest consumer of alcoholic beverages (including wine). As you might expect from such a large population of drinkers, China is home to many different breweries which produce more than 2,500 brands of beer each year – that’s more than any other country on Earth!
The United States of America
The United States of America is the second largest beer consumer in the world, behind only China. With a population of over 300 million people and an economy that’s larger than any other country on Earth, it makes sense that Americans would drink a lot of beer. But they don’t just drink a lot of any old brew–they favor craft brews over mass-produced lagers like Budweiser or Coors Light (which are both brewed domestically). The history of beer making in America dates back to Colonial days when English settlers brought their own recipes over from England and began brewing them locally using local ingredients such as corn instead of barley or wheat malt flour instead of hops which were unavailable at first but later became available through trade with Europe after independence was won from British rule in 1783 following victory by General George Washington against British forces led by General William Howe at Yorktown Virginia during October 1781.
Brazil
Brazil is the world’s second largest beer producer and largest exporter, with several of its domestic brands selling internationally. The country has a long history of brewing beer, dating back to the sixteenth century when Portuguese settlers brought their own recipes with them. Today, Brazilians consume more beer than any other alcoholic beverage–a whopping 142 liters per capita annually.
Russia
If you’re like me, you probably didn’t know that Russia is the largest country in the world. It also has a long history of beer production and consumption. Beer has been produced there since at least 9th century AD, when Slavic tribes began to cultivate hops for their beer recipes. Today, Russia produces about 2% of all global beer–that’s more than Germany! Russia has a large population (over 144 million people) which means there are plenty of thirsty Russians who love to drink beer–and they do so quite frequently: according to some estimates, Russians consume more than 50 liters per capita each year–one of the highest rates anywhere on Earth!
Mexico
Mexico is the world’s fifth-largest beer producer and second-largest consumer of beer. In fact, they consume over 100 liters per capita each year–the highest in the world! Beer consumption in Mexico has been on the rise since 2009, with an expected 2% increase by 2020.
